Welcome to #ReinsuranceMonth 2024
Now in its fifth year, #ReinsuranceMonth will again be packed with exclusive news, analysis, insight and interviews, providing you with all you need to know at this critical juncture in the reinsurance calendar.
As this year’s #ReinsuranceMonth begins, there remains huge uncertainty around the major factor driving property catastrophe renewal discussions: the outcome of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season.
The season had been forecast to deliver a high-level activity. While it is typical to see a lull in July and the early part of August, the continued lack of activity as we begin September is unusual. How the next month pans out will have a significant bearing on renewal discussions.
It appears unlikely at this stage that significant new capital will enter the market at 1.1, and most reinsurers appear confident that current conditions will largely sustain through upcoming renewals amid ongoing discipline in the reinsurance market.
Casualty renewals will also face increased scrutiny this year amid ongoing concern over the challenges around social inflation in the US, with several reinsurers having taken action to strengthen reserves over the past 12 months.
Over the coming weeks we will examine these and many other reinsurance-related issues in detail.
The Insurer team will also be out in force at this year’s Rendez-Vous de Septembre in Monte Carlo, which begins this coming weekend. We will again present our four daily editions covering the event, filled with news and views from across the industry, as we set the scene for this year’s 1.1 renewal discussions.
Those not at the event will be able to access the editions in digital format.
Look out also for a busy schedule of video interviews from The Insurer TV throughout #ReinsuranceMonth.
To set the scene for this month’s discussions, we will be hosting our Pre-Monte Carlo Forum on 4 September at the WTW Auditorium in London.
Look out for full coverage of the event at www.theinsurer.com or register to attend for free here if you haven’t yet done so.
Our #ReinsuranceMonth content will be available to access free of charge, with key highlights emailed directly to those signed up to our mailing list on publication.
